Three-vehicle crash on I-64 kills man from Texas


JEFFERSON COUNTY, ILLINOIS (WSIL) — A three-vehicle crash kills a 27-year-old man from Texas.

According to Illinois State Police, it happened on I-64 at mile post 81.5 around 2:25 on Saturday morning.

Authorities says a 27-year-old male of Kingwood, Texas was driving 2012 Silver Toyota Highlander the wrong way, westbound in the eastbound lanes.

The driver sideswiped a 1990 White Ford Ranger with Robert W. Allison, 42-year-old male from Fairfield, Illinois and his passenger, Lauren M. Schultz, 18-year-old female from Carmi, Illinois.

The wrong-way driver continued on the highway where he struck and sideswiped 2019 Blue Peterbilt Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer with driver Tonya L. Lovette, a 37-year-old female from Albany, Georgia.

The driver from Texas rolled the SUV he was driving and ran off the roadway into the center grass median. He was
pronounced deceased on scene by the Jefferson County Coroner.

The passenger and driver in the Ford Ranger were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. While the semi driver was not injured.
