WEST PEORIA (WEEK) – A bicyclist is dead and the driver of a sport utility vehicle has been cited for disobeying a stop sign following a crash Monday evening in West Peoria.
Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said the crash happened just before 6 p.m. at Waverly and Kellogg Avenues.
The sheriff said a witness told police the SUV did not completely stop at the stop sign and struck the driver of a motorized bicycle. Asbell said the bicyclist, a 33-year old man, was pronounced dead at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
The coroner has yet to release the victim’s name.
Asbell said police cited the SUV driver, Destinee Cole, who is 22, for disobeying a stop sign.
The sheriff said the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office will decide whether to file other charges against Cole.
