CREVE COEUR (WEEK) – It was a Peoria man killed Sunday evening in a Jet Ski accident on the Illinois River, the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office says.
Coroner Charles Hanley identified the man as Rex A. Monroe, who was 49-years old.
Crews were called about 6:15 p.m. to Wesley Road near the public boat launch in Creve Coeur where a Jet Ski capsized and one person was missing in the water.
Authorities pulled Monroe from the river and the coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
Preliminary autopsy results show that drowning was the cause of Monroe’s death, Hanley said in a news release. The coroner added there were no signs of trauma on the victim’s body.
Hanley said the death remains under investigation by his office, Creve Coeur Police, and the Fon du Lac Park District Police Department’s Marine Law Enforcement Unit.
Hanley said the Peoria Fire Department Boat and Dive Units, along with the Bartonville and Creve Coeur Fire Departments were also on the scene Sunday night.
