SPRINGFILED, Ill. (WREX) — You may soon be able to place a wager on your favorite college team in Illinois.
Senate Bill 521 was originally filed by Sen. Antonio Munoz (D), of Chicago, and passed through the House last week and is currently awaiting concurrence from the Senate.
The bill would amend previous laws and allow for Illinoisans to gamble on in-state schools with some restrictions in place.
Bettors would only be allowed to place bets on team wagers and not individual performances. Bettors would also have to make their wagers in-person at a casino and not online via a sports betting app.
The bill was placed on order of concurrence by the House. If the Senate approves the bill, it would go to the governor’s desk.
