Police are investigating a shooting that left three people dead and around five or six others injured in Southwest Miami-Dade.
The shooting occurred in the area of Southwest 109th Court overnight on Saturday.
According to Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez III, one of the victims that was shot and killed was a Corrections officer.
The other two victims died after crashing into a wall at Miami-Dade College. Whether they died after getting shot or crashing into the wall is unknown, but a gun was found in the back of their car.
According to police, there was a graduation party that was coming to an end at around 2 a.m., Sunday. As the party was ending, people were standing in the parking lot when a car pulled up and began to open fire onto the crowd.
About five or six victims were taken to the hospital. They are expected to recover and be OK.
Police are looking for two cars they believe are tied to the scene of the shooting. One of them is a dark-colored vehicle that’s possibly a Chevy, and the other is a white Camry.
This latest shooting comes after Miami-Dade Police kicked off Operation Summer Heat, a 12-week program where police work to reduce the gun violence that has been plaguing South Florida in recent weeks.
