Peoria IL (WEEK) – Local activists rally in Peoria on Wednesday afternoon to address what they call nationwide victim-blaming and sexual violence.
Organizers call it the ‘SlutWalk’. It started at the Peoria County Courthouse, ending at the Gateway Building.
According to the Washington Post, The International movement is meant to fight the idea that what people wear, or how they behave, makes them a target for sexual assault.
“A lot of times victims don’t get a fair shake when it comes to things like this, they aren’t heard the way they should be,” said Organizer Kristen Meierkord.
“We’re down here for awareness for International Sex Worker’s Day. We’re holding a rally to reduce harm and raise awareness,” said Meierkord.
Organizers say protester came from across the state to join the march.
