PEORIA (WEEK) – It was a celebration that was a century in the making.
Virginia Snowden turned 100 years old on Tuesday.
She was born in St. Louis on June 1, 1921. She graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1943 where she met her husband Norwood.
The couple moved to Peoria after World War II, and Virginia now lives at Proctor Place Senior Living in Peoria.
She’s been an active volunteer, helping establish the first school library at Pleasant Hill Elementary School.
On Tuesday, Virginia’s 100th birthday was celebrated with carnations, M&M’s with her face on them, and strawberry cream cake.
