PEORIA HEIGHTS (WEEK) — 78 marines killed from the Tri County area were honored, Monday in Peoria Heights.
Dozens attended the ceremony in Tower Park, followed by a 21-gun salute. As the veterans names were called, children carried flowers one by one to lay at the memorial site.
A new name was added to the site, Sgt. George Reeser, whose remains were brought back to his family in Washington, last September.
His sister, Louis Lauderback, said the community coming together to honor him by adding his name meant so much to her family.
“He was gone for 77 years before we got him back. It is great what everybody has done ya know to honor him,” said Lauderback.
Lauderback said she was proud of her two brothers who both served. And she will continue to honor them today, and everyday.
