PEORIA (WEEK) — A local barber is celebrating one year since opening his current studio, and more than 30 years of cutting hair between Peoria and his home country of Lebanon.
Bob Khoury – also known as Bob the Barber – started cutting hair when he was only 12 years old after he was inspired by his father, who was also a barber.
Just three years later at age 15, Khoury opened his first shop in Lebanon, where he served customers for 20 years.
In 2010, he moved to Peoria with his wife and four children.
After nearly a decade of working in a few small shops, Khoury and his wife opened J+B Studio – which used to be an old karate studio.
He says the new location allows him to expand his customer base and provide a wide variety of services.
“I started thinking to go big, and open a bigger location – especially because people liked Bob the Barber because he was doing a good job,” Khoury said. “I tried for my dream – and this is a dream here, right now.”
Khoury says opening his studio during the pandemic wasn’t easy, but he says thanks to his loyal customer base and support from the community, business remains very steady.
With the new spacious studio, Khoury and his employees offer everything from haircuts and shaves to manicures, pedicures and services for the kids.
J+B Studio is located at 2302 West Glen Avenue in Peoria.
