UPDATE: Man arrested, facing trial in deadly Oildale Fastrip shooting

UPDATE (5/28): The Kern County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a suspect was arrested in April for this shooting.

John Gil Sanchez, 28, is charged with murder and currently scheduled for trial June 21. Sheriff’s records show Sanchez was arrested the same morning of Correll’s death and booked on felony gun and drug charges, but that case was dismissed in late April after the murder charges were filed.

UPDATE (3/29): Jeffrey Joseph Leroy Correll, 22, was identified by coroner’s officials as the man killed. His family has started a GoFundMe asking for help with funeral expenses, which can be found here. The page said Correll had just started college and that his life was taken just as it was getting started, and that there are “so many friends and family” who will always miss him. No suspects have currently been announced in the case.
