PEORIA (WEEK) — The owner of Shell Gas Station on MacArthur Highway has agreed to new safety measures to combat recently reported crime issues.
The City of Peoria said the station and the rest of the Valley Park Mall now have a solution following the shooting on May 9.
There were talk about closing at night, but Shell’s owner declined.
Instead, they will have on site security between 6:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Thursday through Sunday. While the gas station will remain open 24 hours, the mall’s parking lot will be shut down from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. to reduce activity after business hours with more clean up.
25 News tried to contact the owner but could not get them on camera to react.
The city’s assistant community development director said they are “cautiously optimistic” the new guidelines will help.
The new hours are now in place.
