A historic landmark in Peoria has a new owner.

Hale Memorial Church was sold this morning to a Utah couple Colby and Michelle Carpenter. But the sale is not without controversy.

KDB Group Founder Kim Blickenstaff said he planned on buying the building after he learned it could be demolished.

But to his surprise, he said the building was already sold in an online auction yesterday.

“I’m disappointed,” Blickenstaff said. “I wonder what was the point of even engaging this and getting us started with lawyers and appraisers to get out there on site.”

The Carpenters bought the building for $22,000.

They have considered turning it into a book store or a maker space.

They will visit Peoria this weekend to see the building in person for the first time.
