MORTON (WEEK) — A local entrepreneur had dreams of starting his own sneaker business last year, but COVID-19 forced him to change his plans.
Now, he is in the final stages of opening his long-awaited sneaker storefront, Mo-Town Sneakers, in Morton.
20-year old Trey Sieh has collected sneakers since his early teens, and recently, he noticed there were no shops in the local area that specialized in the lucrative trend.
After Sieh was forced to put off his plans to open a shop, he instead began selling sneakers out of a basement in the meantime.
Now, with his storefront secured at 201 North Main Street, he says he wants to help all the local “sneakerheads” find what they need.
“We do buy, trade, sell and consignment,” Sieh said. “A lot of customers will come in looking for specific shoes and specific sizes. And if we don’t have them, we can usually for them – we can find them and look around if the customer is willing to wait.”
Sieh says he gets customers from all over Illinois stopping by to check out his selection, including some from as far as Springfield.
He said social media and online advertising strategies were a big reason for his store’s early success.
