PEORIA (WEEK) – Two state agencies are honoring a Peoria doctor for a lifetime of medical care, particularly for his care of children.
Dr. Girish Deshpande works in pediatric critical care for Children’s Hospital of Illinois at Peoria’s OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Dr. Deshpande is a recipient of the Ron W. Lee, M.D. Excellence in Pediatric Care for lifetime achievement.
He’s one of three physicians honored this week by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Medical Services for Children (EMSC) for their dedication to pediatric emergency and critical care medicine.
The two other honorees are from Chicago.
Dr. Lee was the medical director for the Division of Emergency Medical Services and Highway Safety at IDPH, as well as the director of emergency medicine at Loyola University Medical Center. He was also instrumental in establishing and fostering Illinois’ EMSC program.
Dr. Lee died in 1998.
