A home explosion in northeast Kansas killed a man and seriously injured a woman, officials said.
The explosion occurred at around 6 p.m. Topeka TV reported KSN about 3 miles (4.83 km) north of Holton in Jackson County. Sheriff Tim Morse said the blast shattered the windows of neighboring homes and could be felt along the way in Hulton.
Firefighters and paramedics who arrived at the scene found that the house was leveled and on fire. The names of the dead person and the woman injured in the explosion were not immediately revealed.
Morse said that the cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but officials believe that the house is under renovation, and officials have not ruled out that the cause of the explosion was a gas leak.
