Three killed in Utica blast identified


LASALLE COUNTY (HOI) — The LaSalle County coroner has identified the three individuals that were killed in last week’s explosion along the Illinois River in Utica.

Coroner Rich Ploch identified the three as Immer Rivera Tejada, 39, Guillermo Rivera Tejada, 26, and Rafael Rivera Tejada, 36. All were from Chicago.

No other information on the May 6 incident was released by the Coroner’s Office on Monday.

Initial reports from authorities indicated it appeared a black powder substance was ignited, causing the deadly explosion.

The blast happened near the Ill. Route 178 bridge in Utica.
